How live win probability works
Every game starts from a pregame prior: the model's projected margin, built from per-play offense and defense ratings (opponent adjusted, garbage time discounted), converted to a kickoff win probability. From there the live number updates with the game state — score, clock, and possession — so a 7-point lead reads very differently at halftime than with three minutes left. When the number moves sharply, it's the game leverage moving, not the model changing its mind about the teams.
Reading the strip honestly
Win probability is a statement of odds, not an outcome call: teams at 80% lose one time in five, and a season of NFL Sundays supplies those upsets on schedule. Pregame, the strip shows the prior; in-game, the live estimate; after the final whistle it freezes at the result, so the model's in-game reads stay reviewable instead of vanishing. The same pregame numbers power the weekly slate board and the model lines graded on the betting page.
Previews before Week 1
Before the season starts there are no live games to score, so this page carries the 2026 previews instead: projected score, win probability, and the model line against Vegas for the upcoming slate, filled in as each week's games are priced.
